Taken from the pages of the late Marc Olden‘s Black Samurai book series, Common and RZA will be working on a bringing the books to the small screen. Common will play the lead role of Robert Sand; an Army Ranger who trains with a Japanese master in the art of the Samurai.

The series will be produced for the Starz network, which is currently the home of Neil Gaiman‘s American Gods and, 50 Cent‘s Power and had previous hits with Spartacus and Black Sails. The network will control the international distribution rights for Black Samurai.

The drama, which is in development, is based on the ‘Black Samurai’ novels by Marc Olden and subsequent feature film.
