HBO signs off on ‘True Detective’ Season 3

True Detective is coming back for a third season to HBO. The anthology style show had a very well received first season; which was written entirely by show creator Nic Pizzolatto.

The second season was not equally received, with many stating the structure and storytelling of season one was lacking. With so many hoping the show could find its footing and come back strong, the writing and casting were of the utmost importance.

Cue Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, who was recently cast to play the lead ; Det. Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas investigating a case set in Ozarks. Now with a strong lead in Ali, a new director, Jeremy Saulnier and  writer Pizzolatto scripting almost all of season three, HBO is confident the show will find its voice, and fans again.

“Nic has written truly remarkable scripts,” said HBO president Casey Bloys. “With his ambitious vision and Mahershala Ali and Jeremy Saulnier aboard, we are excited to embark on the next installment of True Detective.”
